We are committed to building environmentally conscious homes. Wherever possible, we utilize re-claimed and recycled materials.  Although costs are slightly higher, we feel the beauty of the material coupled with the environmental savings is a win-win proposition.

Our materials come from numerous sources.  The majority of the material we use is Douglas fir, which was the material of choice for building homes and barns in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s in the mid-west.  With the preference for modern steel outbuildings, and the cost of upkeep on a 100+ year structure, many farms have opted to tear down their dilapidated buildings.  Instead of placing the material in a landfill or burning it, we salvage the materials and turn them into new homes, porches, decorative trusses, mantels, flooring and trim.  Other materials that we use are oak, cedar, ash, walnut and cherry.  Re-claimed timbers can be finished in several ways, depending on the look that the homeowner desires.

Unify the look.
Big Wood can also provide tongue and groove, trim, flooring, doors and cabinetry out of recycled wood.
