What is timber-frame construction?
Timber-frame construction is often referred to as "post and beam" style. This generic term comes from the basic building elements of vertical members called posts and horizontal cross sections called beams. Since this ancient building design was actually devised before iron nails, it was, and still is, fundamentally held together by a simple but extremely effective system of specialty joinery and wooden pegs. The illustration to the right shows the basic parts of a timber frame's construction. Most buildings use either rafters or purlins. For this example we show both.

What are S.I.P.s?
Structural insulating panels, or S.I.P.s, are used to enclose and insulate the timber frame structure. S.I.P.s allow us to build the most beautiful, energy efficient homes on the market.

How long does it take?
A typical 2,000 square foot frame can be cut and installed in three to four months once the design process has been completed.
